the OP doesnt understand what “illegal strikes” mean. To be fair, few people on this site understand even the difference between criminal and civil liability

firing is only one of the options available to US Soccer. Restructuring pay is another. Simply using the strike as leverage to exact better terms against the women is another.
Also, US Soccer doesn’t have to have a mass firing to have the same effect. They can simply move on with selecting players who are not striking.…
NO but to be clear: even if they striked “illegally” for any other reason they wouldnt’ be jailed. An “Illegal strike” just means its not allowed under the contract, which means that they would be in breach if the striked, voiding the obligations of US Soccer. It’s simply a contract dispute.
But if they did quit…
that actually is a legit tactic. Evaluating whether an illegal work slowdown has happened usually requires expert testimony and since there are no soccer experts in the US they would just have to take the ladies’ word for it
No one thinks that but that’s definitely not the measure of how much the women should be paid
US Soccer isn’t a governmental agency and doesnt receive goverment funds. Lots of businesses that are losing money pay their employees anyway. It’s why accountants make a lot of money and banks loan money. So no, there is no government subsidy here.
US Soccer should pay the women equally however
It wouldnt be a contempt issue. It’d be worse: they’d effectively waive all their rights under the MOU by violating the contract. The biggest one being their job protection. So after US Soccer fired all the strikers, they’d bring in some shittier college players and they would have effectively zero rights and probably…

no they would all get fired and US Soccer would probably hire shittier players in their place and those shittier players would have to start over in certifying a new union. This thread is so stupid
So it doesnt seem like you’ve practiced labor law before.
Sure, they can strike. But it would be an illegal strike under the terms of the MOU and agreement, which means that the employer (US Soccer) is now free to refuse to recognize the union and can fire everyone.
The new hires (likely re-hires) would have to…
yeah apparently we just missed one http://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/2016/05/25/mat…
And unless you watch the WNBA as much as you want the NBA don’t try to flame me with some accusations of sexism.
womens world cup
i assume you have something to back this statement up (since the author didnt)
hank scorpio is what we call a “vacuum” internet commenter. all of his ideas and arguments come devoid of any real world experience, and his decisions on whether to accept or reject any premise depends on whether someone else on the internet said it before you and you can link to it
nowhere in this argument does the writer acknowledge the purported reason for stripper licensing: Policing prostitution and reducing sex trafficking. We can have an honest argument about whether licensing actually has an impact, but pointing to it and implying “yeah you uber drivers are just like this” is pretty dense

thanks cis man for reminding us that even our “allies” will still make the bigoted mistake of conflating orientation with gender identity.
For future reference gay =/= Trans
This is actually fairly common. One of the lawyers in Bush v Gore did it and it happens at least once every couple of terms that a news org notices and runs it as a story.
Part of the issue is you’re extremely close to the bench, which means that you can’t always see justices on the far end when they ask you a…
