Well, beating up two guys in one night is a “string of hate crimes”, so one tweet plus this article is probably “backlash”.

Agreed.  This comes from a “I had no idea this might appear racist” place of rich white privilige ... and is a great lesson that even if you think you’re an ally, you can still stick your foot squarely in your mouth when you speak or act without thinking.

I tend to agree with the people here who say Dr. Biden’s comment is best explained by a boomer-mom/teacher desire for everyone to ultimately make nice-nice or whatever; rather than an affirmative racially discriminatory animus, or some desire to promote white supremacy.

This crap about winners meeting the president needs to stop. Trump already took a shit on that tradition with fast food. A lot of the Golden State Warriors didn’t even go. I can’t imagine LSU wanting to go at this point. Iowa probably doesn’t want to either for the same reason.

I remember my first and last participation ribbon. I got it in 1986, and my entire class was so embarrassed that we immediately threw them away. 

Exactly the type of parent who would demand the losing teams still get the participation trophies that the kids knew were bullshit.

It was a case of a woman who has never played competitive sports, nor is a sports fanatic, trying to play peacemaker without realizing what the traditions are and how things would appear.
