R.I.P. SNS. You were a good friend to many, over the years.

Wow finally a SNS with no comments ( mine aside) well done new staff you’ve managed to kill it.

Call me an idealist but broad social will is made up of individual decisions. I will advocate for pulling everyone up to where the fortunate are every time I can.

OK, I am asking you this in earnest. You got the vaccine. So why are you opposed to masking in essential places until everyone can have the level of safety that you have achieved?

It is feasible. It was feasible when masking was prevalent a year ago. The difference now is that people are tired of it. I am tired of it too but we aren’t done yet, no matter how much we want to be.

Oh fuck that. When does a 4 year old have to be in an office? And kindergarten starts at 5 years old

I’m in a similar situation to OP, apart from the fact I live in a different country to my whole family and haven’t seen them in over 3 years. I’m not worried about my risks particularly while flying, but it’s the increased chance that I will pick it up and take it home to my medically fragile father and kill him

The long term solution would be really simple if the majority of people weren’t either only thinking of themselves or - like you - apathetic to the whole thing now. Vaccinate and have everyone mask in highly crowded public spaces with poor ventilation. Like... public transit.  We can substantially reduce risks even if

Someone was shocked that I’m still wearing a mask on public transport, but I’ve had someone vomit on me on the train, so I’m probably going to wear a mask forever regardless of Covid. I guess the people really opposed to masking in grocery stores and on transit must just really enjoy colds and flus?

Maybe it would be different, if I got to work from home, or had to be in close contact with older people, young children, or the immunocompromised...”

Where did it say that you have to live like it’s March 2020? I don’t think that’s what anyone wants.

I am booked for a 13-hour flight this summer so that I can go home and give birth in the US... As far as I know, my airline still requires masks, but I’m sure they will have given that up by then. The thought of sharing air space with that many unmasked people for that long while heavily pregnant is a bit overwhelming.

We can live with the virus. It requires common sense public health practices like masks on public transit.

I know you mean well, but this really isn’t helpful. My father lives with me, and I’m a primary weekday caregiver for my nieces and nephews, so it’s a little tough to just avoid them. I’m sick to death of people saying “we have to learn to live with the virus” like it’s not still killing hundreds of people a day and

Can you guarantee the person you just advised to put themselves at risk won’t get long COVID or COVID-related long term damage?  No?  Then shut the fuck up.

Then it’s a good thing that’s what I’m wearing!

(usually with a cloth mask over it. Not for extra protection - for vanity. Because I bought a bunch of cute Halloween print masks in 2020 and I’m not about to let them go to waste).

I mean, where I am in the San Francisco Bay Area lots of folks still are.

This pisses me off so much. I’ve got a trip coming up that I’ve put off twice now, first when delta spiked and then in February with omicron. I bought this ticket because everyone on the plane would be masked, and now I don’t want to go. The mask mandate combined with the relatively short travel time (under 3 hours)

His BP dropped a couple hours after he got to the ED, so he would have died if he had not gone to the hospital. His recovery has been more complete than I would have expected, given the severity of his infection.

I’m so sorry your Dad was so unwell, that would of been so very worrying and upsetting. It’s good that he’s on the mend.
