These are known as air curtains in the industry. Basically yeah, kinda helps move air around the rotating tire. Usually aren’t all that effective, but once one automaker added them, everyone else followed.

Great review! The 28i/ZF powertrain is without fault (probably the best 2.0T/auto combo out there), but it fails to excite like an inline six. I would daily a 430i GC in a heartbeat.
