The answer is “sometimes.” Some ad deals have payments for traffic, but most only for clicks, AFAIK.
There are other ways to monetize, yes; for instance a certain tech blog that is part of the gakwer network might, as a hypothetical that totally doesn’t actually happen, take money from a large, fruity tech company in exchange for pushing their products over their competitors.

Absolutely. It’s not hands-off like Adblock or tracking-blockers but for users who know what they’re doing enough to be choosy about what scripts to allow, NoScript is great. I almost can’t use other browsers anymore.
