True story: there was a pretty big weta in the scene where the hobbits are hiding from the Black Rider under the tree (not sure if you can see it on screen, but there was one there). That massive millipede that comes out of the tree immediately attacked and killed the weta, to the shock of the production team.…
The X series predates TACHYON by about a year. But agreed that TACHYON was an interesting game. It suffered a little from coming out at the same time as STARLANCER and not long after FREESPACE 2 and X-WING ALLIANCE, all of which were better games, but TACHYON was fun. Plus it had Bruce Campbell in it.
JADE EMPIRE is very, very good and probably the most underrated game in the BioWare stable. I enjoyed it a lot more than DRAGON AGE I (or II, based on how II is going so far) or MASS EFFECT 1.
Obsidian proposed a 'Knights of the Old Republic III' to Lucasfilm and Disney last year. Apparently they're waiting to see if they have to now re-propose it to EA as well. However, Disney are apparently only interested for now in games tying in with the new movie trilogy, so a 'KotOR III' would essentially be a STAR…
Word. I also don't understand why Bethesda haven't done more ELDER SCROLLS novels either. Greg Keyes wrote two books and that's it.
ICEWIND DALE is probably the worst of the three Infinity Engine franchises for newcomers. BALDUR'S GATE eases you into the rules and progression a lot easier and the game doesn't balls up if you choose a wrong party (because your core character can be any class and the NPCs you meet should pick up the slack).
1) New Vegas
Fair enough, but that's also your opinion :) In the main, NEW VEGAS is extremely well-regarded, especially for its writing, characters and the reactivity and variability of its storyline. FALLOUT 3's storyline is okay, but you can't really change anything (which makes you as the player feel like you have no agency,…
FALLOUT 3's better reviews remain a bit of a mystery, given that game was a lot more broken on release than NEW VEGAS, yet no major review outlet mentioned FALLOUT 3's bugs whilst harping on about them at length regarding NEW VEGAS. That's never been explained to anyone's satisfaction.
The FO3/NV comparisons will likely be going on until after the sun goes out. For my part, I think FO3 started brilliantly, certainly much better than New Vegas, but kind of trailed off whilst NV got better and better as the game continued. The FO3 main storyline didn't really go anywhere interesting, there was no real…
It's possible that Bethesda are taking a new tack with the new generation of consoles. If they've concluded it's going to take a lot longer to make the games because they can now be bigger and more graphically impressive (say it's going to be 4-5 years per game as opposed to 2-3), then that means they can't really…
Yup. And FALLOUT 3 sold like 3 million copies in its first month on sale and NEW VEGAS was about 5 million. Those are serious numbers, and Bethesda will be looking to continue that.
Bethesda spent between 3 and 4 years making OBLIVION, almost 3 making FALLOUT 3 and about 3 making SKYRIM. They gave Obsidian only 18 months to make NEW VEGAS. 3 years is a long time, but it might not quite be enough for games of this size and scale and for everything to be 'perfect'. However, taking much longer would…
The PS3 fiasco I think was just down to Bethesda not really getting to grips with the PS3 platform. Clearly something in the engine upgrade broke the PS3 in a way that didn't happen on FO3, NEW VEGAS or OBLIVION. With the PS4 using a much more standard architecture that shouldn't happen next time. Hopefully.
It's from the OLD WORLD BLUES expansion for FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS. The gun being demonstrated in the legendary Cyberdog Gun, which has a dog's brain in it. The gun barks when you fire it, whines when you put it away and the aiming recticles perk up like ears when enemies are nearby. It is the best weapon in the game (in…
Bolton very definitely WAS at the wedding in the books, and was also the one who delivered the killing blow. Catelyn couldn't identify him in the moment (instead thinking of the man wearing the pink cloak, a reference to the Bolton colours) because she was going completely bonkers at the time.
The BBC is conservative in how it reports things, not in the political sense but in the sense of holding back until multiple sources have confirmed things before talking about them. It means they tend to be later with breaking stories, but are more reliable when they do. Of course, critics will point to the BBC not…
