While I would agree that the original Pirates of the Caribbean is the best, I think the original trilogy holds up pretty well. I haven’t seen 4/5 more than once so I have less of an opinion on those, though I didn’t think they were the cinematic abominations they are often made out to be. To that end, Jack Sparrow

When I read that name I did a double take, and wow.

It is most definitely a typo for at least a couple of reasons:

I have seen the movie several times, which includes just within the last year alone at least once in its entirety and many additional times in part. You just listed the characters and some of the plot points, you didn’t really persuasively argue that they are developed characters. I’ll grant that you have an

If your contention is that Jaws is more of a character-based drama that happens to center around a shark while JP is more of a dinosaur movie with excellent characters, that’s an argument I could entertain. But I would put the characters of both movies on similar footing in terms of overall character development and qu

I’m equally surprised to hear you say that. I’ve never heard anyone praise the character work in TLW. It’s a decent showcase for Goldblum as Malcolm and maybe Postlethwaite at Tembo. There are a lot of good one-liners between the characters played by Vaughn, Schiff, and Moore, but I wouldn’t consider any of them

Despite everything, the show refuses to condemn policing as a whole. The system is bad and some cops are bad, it says, but the idea of policing can be redeemed if you just put the right people in charge.

It’s a very minor and silly thing, but many years ago I was watching a bit of “Jaws” on TV and they had some interstitial commentary coming in to or out of the commercial breaks (there were a couple of these programs, like “Dinner and Movie” or “DVD on TV”).

I have to disagree about Jurassic Park.  The characters in the original are fantastic.  The predictable dip in quality of the sequels can be tied to move away from those characters.

I didn’t really know the term, nor had I noticed them, until someone pointed them out in the original Thor. And then: holy guacamole. I don’t like or dislike them, there are just a LOT of them.

Thor is probably my favorite Avenger because even before they leaned into comedy in Ragnarok, the fish-out-of-water stuff in the first movie worked for me. TDW is pretty inessential to the overall MCU, but fine on its own merits and not really worthy of the grief it gets.

Fun fact, it would actually be insanely difficult for the Moon to be on a collision course with Earth.  You have to send it directly at us.  Slightly disturb its orbit and it just moves into a different orbit; it wouldn’t slowly descend toward the Earth.

“Reloaded” is not as good as the original, but it’s a worthy sequel with some great stuff. Cut the rave scene and tighten up some of the talky parts and you might get it on the same level.

I miss that I can no longer answer “Chinese Democracy” to these jokes

Which isn’t even the best version of that song

You mean the second movie, right?  They were killed off in “Retaliation,” not “The Rise of Cobra.”

That was a cool concept and well executed.  It was also a 90 second idea crammed into a 5 minute video.

Ving Rhames had a fairly major role in #2. You’re correct that #4 was just a cameo, but he’s been in all of them.

I just want to point out that years ago “Chuck” already did the “‘Push It’ while someone gives birth” gag.
