I grew up in the church as well. My dad was ward clerk. They had automated tithe reports and accounting. My dad was basically the church accountant. The church kept clean books. They knew who paid ,how much, and it flagged for temple worthiness. The church was absolutely ran like a business. That’s not a bad thing

To be fair baptisms for the dead are performed for anyone they can and the belief isn’t that those souls are forgiven but that should they repent for their sins post-mortem they would able to receive the blessings of God that require being baptized.

Wait they only make $120,000 for a 7 BILLION dollar organization? And people are upset by that? By religious standards that doesn’t even qualify as grift. I legitimately stopped reading right there.

As someone who grew up Mormon none of the stuff mentioned in this article is particularly surprising. They are pretty adamant about collecting their 10 percent tithe and Mormons often do VERY well in business so the fact that the church at the high levels is run like a corporation is no shock at all, and 120k actually

kind of. Small children and mentally infirm do not have the full rights of person-hood and require the guardianship of others.

So, why can’t we treat other species with some decency unless we declare them to be “persons?”

Yes I’m going there. At some point we need to have this same discussion regarding unborn humans. I am not saying “personhood” starts at conception. I am not. I do not believe a cluster of cells deserves legal protection. But at some point that cluster of cells becomes a person that deserves protections. It bothers me

Same type of garbage what was proven wrong about the Ozone hole and ozone depletion. Scientist get some new tool, make some crazy “the end of earth is near” prediction then end up being proven 100% wrong.

Google needs to straighten this damn thing out. There is nothing wrong with Hangouts. All they need to do is incorporate the “Allo/Duo” features into it. They should have simply stuck with the brand, and just went with “Hangouts for Business”. Once people adopt a way of doing something, they are VERY reluctant to

Security nightmare? That nigerian prince that sent you an exe wasn’t real.

Materials you will need

For a headline, we would have also accepted “Here’s another useless tool that can be made with a 3-D printer.”

Well this is about as much use as a chocolate ironing board.

“... hit a set of spike strips going 115 MPH, subsequently barreled off of the road and into a drainage ditch, launched the truck into the air and landed on a car parked at a restaurant”

Not to be that guy (I think Uber has made some bad decisions, not to mention the higher ups seem to be pretty scummy), but. How did this guy lose $97k because of Uber?

I used to work for a nonprofit that managed conservation easements for wetland mitigation projects, so this was something that I got pretty deep into.

I feel like you know very little about anarchism.

Ehhh, the people I see burning shit down these days are decidedly left of center their, freindo.

Anyone else remember when this page was for tech and not annoying political issues that NON OF US OUTSIDE OF THE US GIVE TWO RATS BUTTS ABOUT? God enough already. Can we get back to ANYTHING ELSE please.

Raspberry Pi is cool but it is not necessarily the best tool for every job. In my opinion the Raspberry PI is a great computer substitute. If you want to do something over the network or to typical computer outputs like screens or speakers, go with the Pi.
