I doubt the person who wrote this article or anyone at AV Club will read this comment but…

Just tried the Vive. It's so good.

This list is severely lacking Life of Pi. By far the best use of 3D for me. The effect on the shifting ocean was jaw dropping.

Dern as Diane surely.

Sounds like HBO saying to Pizzolatto, "Dude, Season 2 was terrible. We're not going to greenlight Season 3 until you deliver some seriously quality scripts. Don't worry, we'll tell everyone it's our fault to keep interest in the product simmering."

Inception

Bloodborne.

Haven't been able to turn off this album yet. It's so so good.

I can definitely see that with Hostel 2. Placing the businessmen front and centre gave it that satirical edge that raised the whole thing. I kinda wish CitW had committed the same way with the Jenkins and Whitford characters.

I can't argue with that. Those questions are there. But in the chaos of trying to be a generic horror film that doesn't take itself seriously, as well as a smart satire of a horror film that doesn't take itself seriously, I found it impossible to dedicate much focus on those questions.

I remember the exact moment the penny dropped. The main heroine is on the dock struggling for her life with a zombie. We cut inside to the office workers starting to celebrate the end of the game. Then back outside to the struggle with dramatic music playing. That was the moment I realised the movie thought I was an

My thought process in the cinema… "oh cool a load of cursed items that could kickstart some seriously imaginative shit!! Oh wait… generic zombies? That's kinda… boring… Wait so we're dealing with generic zombies for the next 40 minutes?? Well… that's really disappointing. Oh wait, thats the point? Hmmm.. well I don't

I just wish it, having declared itself a horror film (among other things), took part in actually being a decent one too. Maybe I just think zombies are really boring. Maybe that's the point. Either way I was bored…. aaaaaand just like that I'm back in the cinema watching CitW!

Cabin definitely has vision and creativity by the bucketload but completely sacrifices tone and tension in pursuit of one punchline after another. It's all in service of comedy/satire and no horror, which is where my problems start.

Maybe you're right Gnome and arguing genre is pointless. Personally I think it's pretty interesting.

Maybe we're in agreement (apart from the quality of CitW). I really dislike the way horror is represented in modern cinema and crave the more interesting, literary works from 70's cinema (The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby). Having said that, I really enjoyed Paranormal Activity and am still terrified by Blair Witch. I

Whoops, forgot to add "In my opinion" and "I might be wrong but"… sheeeeeeeiiiiiiiit!

I was with you 100% until you started insinuating that CitW takes the high ground.

Misguided intelligence that trips over its own genre deserves to be gently patted on the back and then kicked down the stairs.
