I tend to believe it has far more to do with status, relative exclusivity, Tesla tech and sex appeal for most Tesla owners, rather than “dealership bad”.

A lot of Tesla owners talk about how they love the simple interior of their cars; no buttons, no knobs, everything is form-functioned. The software in Teslas is very sophisticated. It not only tells you that, it lists them for the whole country. You can set it to whatever info you like.

As a dude looking at the angle, depth and age of that weld I can think of a lot more things that would make flying into a tree a ridiculously pleasant option instead.

Those lines were mainly because many Tesla owners had free Supercharging with some new and legacy cars. Tesla owners are an odd bunch though.
