It wasn't as funny as other episodes but obviously this is to set up the final next week. I felt this episode dealt with that uncomfortable question 'how and when do we want this end? Do we want characters to move on? Form new relationships?'

Cheers but I think some people said the same thing earlier in the thread so I certainly shouldn't take any extra credit! I think the other aspect is that these old GI Joe shows used to end with a cheesy and silly final joke so I think they were riffing off that too.

This episode hit quite close to home to be honest. The tacked on ending was intentional to me. I think it was meant to convey that although Jeff left the GI Joe cartoon world behind, he was still basically in a sit-com. So not much has changed, ultimately.
