No, the difference in density and temperature makes it really odd. There’s a reason it’s not commonly done.

This had nothing to do with overbooking. Overbooking is dealt with before boarding. This was an error of logistics that was handled in the worst way possible. If they had simply booked the airline personnel on space positive, vouchers would have been offered of increasing value until enough volunteers were found. In…
It doesn’t even matter that he had patients. I mean, of course it does, but HE PAID FOR HIS SEAT. It didn’t matter if he was heading home to perform surgery or sit in his Laz-E-Boy for six hours watching Game Show Network. He was not acting up or breaking the rules of the airline or the law in any way. I cannot…
*after* everyone was already on the plane and in their seats
Oh, yeah, let’s blame the victim, here. Hope someday your doctor is in this position, and your biopsy or whatever is delayed because your doctor is the one who is manhandled and thrown off a flight! Geez!
I mean, I’m sure there are a fair amount of people (like me) who can’t afford numerous days off of work, and therefore carefully plan their flight around their plans without a ton of wiggle room. If you do the due diligence of applying some logistics and reason to your travel plans it seems only reasonable that the…
I can only imagine the level of screaming and thrashing they would have had to put up with if it had been me in this man’s position. I would scream until my throat bled— fuck the rent-a-cops, fuck the real cops, fuck the airline. “Very upset” is just the HR-appropriate way of saying “irate and uncooperative,” which…
Apparently, according to other commenters here, in circumstances like this, where you are delayed more than 4 hours because of United overbooking, you are entitled to 8X the ticket price up to $1,300. So if I were forced off the flight and forced to accept the $800 then I have grounds to sue. ALSO the injury aspect…
Also, why are these “law/rule enforcement” people always so mindlessly violent? It’s like someone comes and tells you, hey we need you to get this person off the plane because bullshit reason x and you’re just like d’oh ok and show up to start making people bleed? Do you really have no room in your job to determine if…
It’s not right, but they do stuff like this all the time. They routinely oversell, which I guess is because some number of passengers miss planes for whatever reasons--sometimes because they cancel last minute, sometimes because they don’t make connections, sometimes because they miss planes. I’ve been told (when…
Not only that, but even aside from overbooking and then trying to find 4 seats for employees, why the fuck would they only try to resolve this *after* everyone was already on the plane and in their seats??? If they knew they had employees to move, and they planned to screw passengers to do it, seat the employees…
One little known law (which should be very widely known) that’s been getting more attention because of this is the fact that airlines must compensate you in cash (not vouchers), if you are bumped off a flight due to overbooking and that causes you to be delayed getting to your next destination. As the Department of…
I hope this results in legislation that prohibits overbooking. Airlines should just be permitted to sell out their seats. If someone misses their flight, the airline keeps the fare and doesn’t get to make 2x the money because of overbooking.
I don’t blame the 4 employees that United attempted to add to the flight. I’m willing to bet that they were being forced to staff a plane in Louisville due to other flight delays or something like that and they had no choice in the matter. This seems to be the unintended but inevitable result of shitty corporate…
And yet that still doesn’t make it the problem of paying customers. It’s not like United just started operating yesterday.
I believe the correct term is “Voluntold”.
An assaulted doctor with a bloody face, patients waiting for him at home, being forced off the plane against his will and all of it caught on video?
I look forward to all the commenters who will show up and say this is standard practice and that if the man didn’t want to be beaten and forcibly removed from the plane, he shouldn’t have boarded it.
So if I’m to understand this, this guy already paid for a ticket and was seated, but the airline wanted to give his seat to an employee??? How is this possibly the procedure???
Yeah, most of her imperfections came from her being demonized by the right for 20 years. I can’t really fault her for that.
