I hate to say this, but I volunteered at a county shelter before my kid was born, and lots of people try to euth animals at home with human drugs. I’ll spare you the details, but...no matter how well intentioned you are, don’t do that. At our shelter, we’d even give you a harmless tranquilizer beforehand if you didn’t

You are making a lot of very favorable assumptions here. Obviously none of us can know what happened in this specific case, but if you watch shows on animal hoarding you will see many people who believe they and they alone are the best people to take care of the animals they actually abusing - and even being shown

Sorry, Pinkham’s Law is disallowed for cat murdering assholes. (and I’m not even a cat person, just nope)

I am on that boat - to not let them out period. My message got a tad muddled there. And yes, it’s a controversial stance.

The corpses probably have proof of said animal abuse - for instance, if they’re malnourished, or if she used a particularly gruesome way of killing them. A vet would be able to tell if she did them in by feeding them rat poison, and that would certainly qualify as abuse.

When they kill the animals with some sort of barbaric at-home method and dump the bodies in an inappropriate garbage site.

Actually, by the time cats have been in te shelter for more than a few days, they’re usually not healthy anymore. Upper respiratory infections in cats are pretty much endemic in shelters, and they're awful (yes, google it if you don't believe me)

I don’t. There’s no way she had the correct equipment to make their deaths as quick and as painless as animal control could. Unless you’ve got an at-home supply of anesthetic and barbituates, get a professional to do it.

Also please help “kill”/open admission shelters because they do not have the option of turning animals away when they're full. Open admission shelters NEED adopters, fosters, and donors in order to euthanize fewer animals.

In addition to spaying/neautirung, can we all just agree to not let our kitties wander at night? I’ve worked as a nanny for several vegan swearing tree loving folks who adopt cats and then let them roam at night where they can get hit by cars, taken down by other animals, and they are the major songbird killers in GA

Yep! At the very least, an open admission shelter could have made sure the cats were put euthanized humanely, rather than whatever this woman did to them. (Drowned? Beaten? Poisoned?)

I would sooner drop off an animal at my local animal control shelter than I would at the “humane” society. I’m sorry, it’s abusive to keep animals caged in high stress environments for years on end. My vet can’t even work with them, it’s that horrible.

Presumably they didn’t die of natural causes. You can’t humanely euthanize your own pets.

Since euthanasia means “humane death” and she would not have had access to the controlled drugs to perform euthanasia (unless she was a vet), I don’t think euthanasia was how these cats died. It was probably something gross and painful.

I want to stuff her in a suitcase.

Idk if they would work (I know you are joking) but for real... cat penises are barbed and horrifying. I didn’t believe it until a friend convinced me to google it. I can’t unsee it. lol

Hmmm. Where I live now it’s all no-kill and rescues, but where I grew up it was pretty common for people to leave boxes of puppies/kittens outside of animal control before opening hours to get around 1) being turned away, or 2) any applicable fees.

It doesn’t say she didn’t though? My understanding is that some traditional shelters will also turn down pets unless they’re already homeless if they’re full, so she could’ve tried other shelters too and it was just left out of the article.

Are you asking a logical question of a woman who stuffed 14 cats in a suitcase...?

FUCK HER.
