If the paint’s nice and hard, I would use a wax and grease remover....Shopline JX-101 is pretty good. Make sure you dry it off before it dries itself. You’ll need to re-wax it, but should take the compound right off. Works wonders on tar as well.

We stopped baking our cars...after a couple days we buff and polish (it’s easier when the clear coat’s still soft) and wash them immediately afterwards.
