Actually, that’s not quite it, either. FF1 doesn’t pick a random encounter from a list every time it needs a random encounter. Instead, there’s a set list of encounters it simply steps through. Every time you turn the game on, you start back at the beginning of the list. If it were possible to save on WarMECH’s

SPAG RAVI PARM FETA was an early one for me.

Yes! It’s such an interesting system and I’m surprised nobody seems to have gone back to it, even as like a retro/throwback game. FF1 doesn’t make the most of the system (there’s not too many spots where good spells compete for charges) but the system itself is really interesting.

I don’t know if it’s right to say the “Ineffective” style of combat is a design flaw - Gold Sun used the exact same combat and they had almost 25 years to ruminate on that one. You kinda treat it like it’s a glitch or something.

Monks (Bl. BELTs) have by far the best damage output! Much much more useful character than THIEFs or Wh. MAGEs. Probably better than Bl. MAGEs too, actually.

No, not right now anyway.

Because it’s not really that helpful or good. Certain heroes can tear everything down in a second or two. CAN - as the video shows, that doesn’t mean they will choose to >_>
