Some companies are worse than others. With Mass Effect 2 in order for you to get "everything" you had to pre-order from multiple retailers, buy Dr Pepper or something like that, and participate in a facebook game. I don't think they ever made the content available to everyone.

I love what Disney Infinity did with their exclusives for the most part. Figures were available a month or two early at specific retailers, but all retailers got them in the end.
