Hey Jason, any plans to play Shenmue? I’m surprised you haven’t and am sure you’d enjoy it.

This sort of thing is why modern gaming is such shit.

wrong Owen :). Although since Owen Good is now at Polygon, it’s probably difficult for him to maintain rationality as well.

Yeah, I’m guessing someone at Awesome Japan, rather than someone who actually works for Yu, threw that together. They suck pretty bad. Personally, I hope this ends up being the final art.

Your opinion is rather dull.

I’ve been waiting for this game since 2001 and it’s obvious that’s just a quick placeholder image. I don’t see why any rational person would be deterred by it when you have Yu Suzuki’s previous work to go off of.

I hate articles like this because it shows how ignorant people are about statistics. If a population is large enough, assuming that we randomly sample without bias, we can calculate the number of people to be chosen such that we are within plus/minus 5% 95 % of the time using the formula:

Nah, unless you’re going for safety deposit boxes at a bank used by rich people they probably don’t have very much cash at a time.

I didn’t read the article because with my Japanese, I’d spend a few hours just figuring out what various kanji mean. However, I read the sentence you selected and I would translate it similar to how you did and interpret it as him saying that with Kickstarter and money from Sony they can get the game out the door but

It’s hard to believe anything could be so awesome.

3.5 is the stretch goal for a complex skill tree system. 5 million is enough to fill out the main town. 10 million seems like 3 full towns with a lot of freedom to go between them.

If you pledge to the kickstarter, I give you absolve you of all sins related to piracy and emulation of Shenmue I and II on the Dreamcast.

They found working source code for Sonic Xtreme. Hopefully this can be similarly leaked.

The link is a translation of a Famitsu interview with Yu Suzuki. Go ahead and read it yourself.

I would rob a million banks to get that released.

Sony is providing some money in the form of marketing and PS4 physical production.

I already went into why the figures thrown around are misleading. Shenmue was originally meant to make the Dreamcast competitive with the Playstation and then the PS2 and that number stretched over 2+ games, 2 generations, 3 consoles, a movie, a marketing budget, and silliness like reverse engineering watches. Shenmue

It’s translated from a Famitsu interview.

The $47M figure is also a bit misleading. Shenmue was originally designed as a way to sell the Saturn. There’s a lot of evidence that they had most of the first two games finished and parts of the third game. It also looked fantastic. It was okay if it cost a lot because it was ambitious and meant to sell systems.
