Funny I did that but more of an accident by using a big hammer as a wheel stop on my old 81 Rabbit which had no parking brake and required ether to start. Had to be in neutral but no one in the car to hold the brakes on a slight hill while it got started from the engine bay.

Good job getting it running! I’m finally getting my TDI engine swap going. Been parked since I had a kid and moved right when I blew it up last with over triple the stock horsepower.

Next best thing, swap a TDI into a late 90's/00's Ranger. They directly sell the adapter plate to mate the engine to the trans. You can have the manual 4x4 of your dreams.
