It would be interesting to see the reasons why the black students were being suspended and see if they were comparable to that of white kids. Based on what we see in how adults are treated one would imagine that they black kids might even be being punished while being less disruptive or breaking fewer rules.

When did school systems start doling out suspensions (to anyone) so frequently? Is it a zero tolerance thing? When I was in school in the 70's and 80's suspensions were very rare in my perception, and reserved for the most extreme behavior (violent or criminal).
