In my experience, the baking soda/toothpaste method is a great way to add a thousand tiny scratches that will cloud up the entire lens. I recommend experimenting only as a last resort.

While it doesn't work for all sites, you can use Chrome's "Delete Node" feature to accomplish a similar feat when a log-in box blocks your view. Right-click -> Inspect element -> then click on the element to find the corresponding html code -> right click -> delete node
