One dead pixel may not be the end of the world, but it would bother me till wits end. As a matter of fact, when I lost a pixel on my PSP it really made it hard for me to watch movies on it, and the pixel was way off to the side by the bezel.

Actually, it has a lot to do with releasing opensource software which give people the ability to play bootleg games. That's why Sony doesn't like people flashing their firmware, it costs the company when people are downloading games and running them for free instead of paying for them.
