I'm glad that they got an opportunity to compete without having to stoop to competing under a flag of a country they hate, just because it's close by.

Well, it was just an awful moment of realization for him when the kid sacrificed his life and he couldn't do anything to change the villager's opinion. The seeds were planted, at least, for him to become more sympathetic, which is why "Ariel" shocked me.
