I assumed these were just a concept feature that would disappear on production models. No thanks, especially on a “family” car.

Really? Pretty much every MD-80 (S-80/83) I’ve been on has been a flying shit can of broken pieces of interior panel flapping down the runway. That and the fact that they’re usually disgustingly dirty, stained up, and hot while sitting on the ramp means I’ll almost never fly ‘Murican. Of course what I’ve described…

Why don’t commercial aircraft have landing gear that can yaw to follow the direction of travel? B-52s have this tech and use it quite successfully. They just lock the gear to the runway’s heading.

I’m not defending VW/Audi here, but how many people died as a direct result of their alleged duplicity? Yes, there should be a price to pay, but to think that the penalty would potentially dwarf GM’s fine/penalty shows how our priorities are upside down.
