You don’t use wheelie bars in Radial drag racing, even in the top tier class (Radial vs the World). If these cars actually load up on the bars, bad things happen.

That is epic!
Those were good times. Condolences to his friends and family.
It’s still on the air because they are Discovery’s top-rated show (the original Street Outlaws). The Memphis spin-off doesn’t do as well, but the No Prep Kings (where they take it to the track) was in the top ten for it’s time slot.
Multiple cars from the original show (not Memphis) are now running Proline 481X motors, which are in the $60-70k range. The Memphis cars are lower dollar builds though.
A few days ago, the family asked for no more stickers. They have a literal pile of them at this point. This went viral in the drag racing community a week or two ago, and since then they’ve asked people to focus on the gofundme.
The phrase “F’n send it” has been used in drag racing for years; certainly prior to 2017.
That’s odd. Most drag strips just stipulate a certain cage certification along with chutes above a certain speed. The RvW class is running into the 3.7's in the 1/8 mile, and they don’t run bars.
Wheelie bars are not mandatory at a drag strip. Some categories, like Radial vs the World, do not use wheelie bars at all.
For the last couple of years, I’ve been making the poor man’s version of a local food truck’s (Bravas) go-to dog - The El Gringo. Chili, Frito’s corn chips (broken up), guac, pico, bravas sauce (a Spanish condiment), and garlic aioli.
The top end of the track is where things get really dangerous in no prep racing. These cars are capable of running 200 mph in the eighth mile. There are never any times shown in this type of drag racing, but the top tier of racers are running very close to four seconds flat. Basically, they’re too fast to run the…
This is a no prep car - they only run to 660'.
Someone that works for with my father did that. He used Nair head to toe. He was pretty pleased with himself when he showed up at the drug testing truck. The guy getting samples asked to see his hand, so the guy says sure, and holds it out. Very quickly, a fingernail was clipped and the piece put into a vile. Yea...…
The problem is that wheelie bars are pretty much unsafe on a radial car. If you load up the bars, the tires unload very quickly. That generally means that the car is going to hit the wall. Radials react very differently than big tire drag slicks when the wheelie bars are loaded.
Nobody runs bars in Radial vs the World. They merely cause things to get worse.
They’re useless on a RvW car. Plus, most Radial vs the World events don’t allow them. If they are allowed, there is a weight penalty.
It is the class and the type of tire. The class here is Radial vs the World. That class generally doesn’t allow bars. If you do put bars on a radial car, and you load up the bars, the radials really don’t like it. Loaded bars generally means a trip to the wall.
Wheelie bars are either not allowed or they come with a weight penalty in Radial vs the World racing. If you do have bars, and you load them up, drag radials act nothing like big tire slicks. The car is generally going to go toward the wall if the bars get loaded.
“is with the angels now”...
That’s awesome! He seems like a genuinely nice guy.
