Absolutely agree. I think that audio helps too. It harkens back to a time of Asian action dramas of the 90s of which I connect with the franchise.

I think most people are spoiled by the modern expectation of graphics and what not. So I think on initial viewing, seeing such a cartoonish style versus realistic textures within the style, looks kind of weird.

Just fill in an excuse used with all the Asian-background stories that get white people instead:

So while other minorities in America would go out to see whitey mcwhiteface lead in generic white movie #3372 and have no problem relating to it, you’re telling me whitey won’t watch ethnic von brown lead in a movie still filled with famous recognizable people because they can’t relate to brown face having power?
