Anyone would look either good or bad with different lighting. In studio we have power over lights. White light makes the skin much smoother than the yellow light from the sunlight.

I have seen original photos of this cosplayer when I shot myself with the photographer, the photoshop is very minimal. I’ve rarely seen someone with such a statuesque face in person, it really is impressive.
