I have an electric smoker too, it sits outside so even if it goes off, it won’t catch anything on fire. I am big fan of electric. I’ve had charcoal/wood & propane smokers — but I have to admit I love my electric smoker. Set it, go in every 2-3 hours and add some chips ... all there is too it.

Like it was said, temp control is the big deal — not mention running 5-6 hours for smoking then finishing in the oven will save you some propane too. 12 hours on a propane gill will burn a fair amount of gas.
