I mean we don’t know that. You can’t say VW has been really fighting for the union here or using their power to open the way for them with the state and local governments.

I don’t work there, but it does not seem to be only the politicians that are preventing it. The German system, whether or not I understand it, really doesn’t seem to be relevant to brining in the UAW in TN.

And:

Here is something that explains the situation in Mexico, but is not specific to the car industry. (However, the problems faced are the same.)

What union should they have gone with?

Also,

Also from The NYT

Their attitude in Germany is, or at least appears to be, quite different than it is in the US or Mexico (In my opinion, because they are more or less forced to cooperate there.) Just because they have a rep from the German union on their board certainly doesn’t look like it is making them friendly to union

I mean some of this has been reported on here in TMS before. Not to be snarky either, but you are also free to do the research and educate yourself. Why is the burden on me? I offered an opinion based on information that can be looked up and verified. I think that’s enough, especially for a casual setting like this.

I just can’t remember anymore, it was maybe 2 weeks ago, but I’m 99% sure it wasn’t the current gen.

You can have a union in a right to work state (see Michigan) and it’s not up to the state lawmakers. However, there was and still is an attempt to unionize Chattanooga. It’s not clear cut, but it seems that both the state and the company are at best, working hard to prevent unionization and at worst using union

But a lot of people employed in the industry in both Mexico and the US do not. It’s a fact you can look up. One of the especially bad ones is the people in Mexico who with with upholstery.

You know I’m not totally sure what year it was now, but I think it was the ‘07 to ‘14 gen.

Much greater gap between wages and cost of living in Mexico. That’s the point I’m trying to make.

I’m talking about both, but there is a greater disparity in Mexico. However, one has to wonder if we could be headed this way.

This was the last gen. appox. 2 or 3 years old.

Not in Mexico. Go look up Mexico.

Yup, lots of shittyness goes on, there and elsewhere. Lot’s of shortsightedness and lots of doing ineffectual or worse, damaging things merely to look “good” in front of people who don’t bother to understand the situation.

So while Trump is a blowhard who can suck it and the domestics are sourcing more and more components from China and Mexico, (I went to change the battery on a CTS the other day and the harness has a huge white sticker that says, “Made In China,”), don’t be quick to praise the foreign brands doing final assembly here
