Agreed with all of that. Chase’s characters are often understated but prone to hysterics. Fletch maintains a dry aloofness that works for that LA noir. The basketball dream sequence really doesn’t fit.

I don't think he was fired by Harmon. Chase was fired during season 4, and Harmon had already been fired himself by that point.

Rehashing this whole thing is boring at this point. Chevy Chase is an asshole with a big ego and particular sense of dated humor who is difficult to work with. Learning that “dick actor viewed network tv show as a paycheck, not personal treasure that some fans saw it as” is not news.
