I think a lot of it we could improve by being smarter consumers — frugality would go a long ways. But you’re right that there are probably interesting ways we could use our trash too.
So the actress meets this business manager 50+ years after making the movie. He introduces her to a therapist who convinces her she’s been traumatized (sounds a lot like the ones who convinced their kids their parents molested them), hires her a lawyer (who fabricates quotes from his client), tries to find connections…
Even when I saw this movie at age 15, I thought the brief nude shot was unnecessary. Yeah, we understand, they got married and consummated the act. Seeing a flash of Juliet’s chest added nothing.
There must have been some sort of rapprochement to a degree at least since Chevy Chase returned as a hologram for Season 5.
Chase seems to have genuinely not gotten Community, but he did recognize Glover as a threat — in other words, a uniquely bright light in an already really solid cast. Everything I’ve read seems to point to Chase being jealous (and maybe feeling every bit as out of step as he actually was). That doesn’t excuse his…
The best point I’ve heard someone make about Pierce Hawthorne is this: Pierce is a wealthy, racist, sexist, out-of-touch Boomer portrayed by Chevy Chase. Chase doesn’t get what’s funny about Pierce because he is Pierce. He doesn’t get what’s funny or absurd about Pierce because he doesn’t get what’s funny or absurd…
I mean, some of the stuff he did to later SNL cast members when he came back to host is pretty assholish (telling Terry Sweeney they should do a long-running sketch where Terry has AIDS and gets weighed every week... Will Ferrell said he’s the worst host he ever had and he’ll never work with him again).
Whatever, dude. Community was your last brief flash of relevance of the past 25 years, and you fucked it up because you’re Chevy Chase (and we’re not). I’m a big defender of Pierce as a character and I think the show suffered after Chase’s departure, but...dude is a dick. No getting around it.
From a few stories I have heard from some people who I trust....Chase can be funny and seems to be ok to hang around with sometimes. But its a certain kind of funny that he uses that is 1) woefully out of date and 2) not reciprocated from him. I have heard its a ‘needling funny’ or a ‘sorta bullyish funny’. If a…
I was thinking it was more unconscious sociopathy - for me, the true asshole does it consciously, intentionally, and specifically to hurt and annoy people, whereas the sociopath does it by nature. But that could be construed as splitting hairs, so I dunno...
Agreed with all of that. Chase’s characters are often understated but prone to hysterics. Fletch maintains a dry aloofness that works for that LA noir. The basketball dream sequence really doesn’t fit.
I don't think he was fired by Harmon. Chase was fired during season 4, and Harmon had already been fired himself by that point.
it’s 2010 i’m reading an av club article about how chevy chase doesn’t think community is funny
Rehashing this whole thing is boring at this point. Chevy Chase is an asshole with a big ego and particular sense of dated humor who is difficult to work with. Learning that “dick actor viewed network tv show as a paycheck, not personal treasure that some fans saw it as” is not news.
>then Glover has his own massive ego, so we can take that with a grain of salt too.
The reason I love Fletch is because it’s probably the straightest that Chevy Chase ever played it in a comedy. He played Irwin Fletcher as a detective who is doing a job and uses the silly stuff to disarm people or cause consternation so that he can exploit it. The sequel was horrible because the only thing he took…
The fistfight with Murray is so overblown; they both agree it was instigated by Belushi and they’ve done appearances together multiple times since (not just Caddyshack).
Yes but this wasn’t about the almost useless recycling done by individuals and was about the actual culprit of most pollution a corporation reducing carbon emissions. So maybe take a step down from your high horse.
