Agreed on all fronts. I also believe he has a letter of marque from the Dutch, which from his perspective makes him a legitimate pirate, but does NOT mean he has any formal support in this venture beyond that. He also was the pilot, not the captain; I don’t think he was really prepared to be in charge of any

I think the difference here is that the Japanese characters are also mostly trying to figure out how to use HIM to their own gain against the Portuguese. It’s also clear the Japanese are bigoted, as well. Pretty much everyone was, then.

Also, she’s an interesting case of having an aptonym.

I still am excited to learn more about your ACR!

I think all coupons say they’re redeemable for 1/10 or 1/100 of a cent, so there’s that!

This is unfortunate, because the premise sounded very interesting, and I really enjoy Keaton’s work as an actor.

These posts are consistently the freshest part of the rotting corpse that is this site. Frankly, they should be paying you at least as much as they pay the writers.

Yeah, I assumed “doing noses” was some dirty term among people I’m too young to regularly interact with in a context where describing a sex act would be appropriate.  I was genuinely puzzled when Urban Dictionary came up pretty blank on the term.  Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

Honestly, I’d pay some actual money for some actual writing. There are several Substacks I have paid subscriptions to - if you like NFL Football, Mike Tanier is the best in the business. It’s rare to find someone cover the NFL and also be a literary nerd and hilarious. He’s like if Sterling Archer’s writers covered

Emily is great example for the folks here to follow. Meredith is improving over the Gen Z conversational patois she used in the first reviews, but her continued use of “cringe,” is, well, SO cringe. There are plenty of articles online about the concept of losing face - with much more accurate terms that could be

Yes, foreshadowed by an earlier conversation where Blackthorne explains that chain shot spreads the damage over a larger area, and is of a different nature.

They’re just now learning that Englishmen *exist* - perhaps the Portuguese they’ve met have found it distasteful.

Jalopnik writers: “You shouldn’t have to drive to get around in America, we need public transport!”

Wah, welcome to literally every other industry, Hollywood.

My point’s only relation to your point is that you disapproved of “lazy” as the description of these folks, whereas I view “lazy” as an insult in general.  I think the consensus we both were headed towards is that the writers aren’t lazy. They’re just talentless hacks.  I’m sure they work hard to reach sub-Dane-Cook

Yes, this. Christina Hendricks is an outlier in Hollywood, being a size 12/14. She’s not some average women, other than being her size. A lot of us love her - more than just her talent - because she’s shaped like actual women are shaped. She’s just the *chef’s kiss* version of that.

Yeah but Christina Hendricks is a size 12/14 which is a much bigger deal than Sweeny’s Jennifer Love Hewitt deal of skinny girl with big boobs.

Eh her legs are better than her boobs anyway.

It’s your problem that you think laziness is a moral failing.  Every labor saving invention came from someone who was so lazy that they hated their repetitive task so much, it inspired them to work hard to create something to eliminate that repetitive task.

Eh, now that I’ve seen her SNL promo pic, I wonder why people focus on her boobs when she’s got those killer legs.
