Surprised you wrote this article without mentioning John Norman's GOR series, which I also enjoyed as an adolescent, and took misogyny to a whole new level. Xanth was always only ok—although I remember On A Pale Horse being quite good—preceded Neil Gaiman's Sandman by about 5 years and used many of the same tropes.
