I don’t get it; any backlash that TS may experience wont take away money that she has already earned - and I assume she has loads of cash and could basically retire now if she wanted to. With that being said, she was never poor. This fear of losing the ability to make more money when you’re already a multi-millionaire

I disagree, I think the unwillingness to accept debate and discussion within a movement is far more dangerous.

But I’d argue that infighting is the inevitable, predictable result of predicating your movement upon concepts like oppression and privilege. When you turn oppression into a currency, you incentive people to collect as many as possible and that creates divisions (since oppression inherently comes from others). Don’t

Yes!! That too. It all amounted to concern trolling while remaining clueless as to the history, purpose & scope of the strike itself. There was a lot of Jez commenters in that camp. I even read one commenter basically saying, “I am privileged enough to attend, but since some women aren’t as privileged as me and cannot

Isn’t Jezebel prompting this kind of in-fighting constantly tho??? If there’s anything good, there’s a ‘gotcha’ article about it on Jezebel.

Fair, but I think it is harsh to call it “bullshit in-fighting”.

It’s not about unwillingness to accept debate and dissension, it’s about being able to say, “okay we have our differences but we have a mutual goal, so let’s set our differences aside so we can attain our goal.” Letting go of the small things for the sake of the big picture is a skill we sorely lack.

I love this and completely agree. We have too often let perfect be the enemy of the good. Has there or can there ever be a movement that is perfect? No, it is not possible. We need to focus on the good that we can do, while incorporating lessons learned going forward. If we get distracted tearing one another down,

Go even further back and there’s a real issue, imho, with beginning from a position of exclusion and specificity instead of grasping the first chance since the depression we really had to engage in an actual, working-class general strike.

Thank you for this — so very true. The problem with some — not ALL — of the protests at the moment is that they are so wide in scope it isn’t clear what they are hoping to accomplish.

This kind of bullshit in-fighting is precisely why the conservatives — who, despite all their faults, are ace at holding their noses in the interest of presenting a solid front to their opponents and attaining their goals— manage to get so much fuckery done while the liberals argue about everything under the sun.

All due respect, I thin conflating the Womens Strike to anything in the Civil Rights Movement is foolhardy. One thing that has always struck me about the civil rights movement was how damn ORGANIZED they were (and that just emphasizes how unorganized the current resistanceis). The Montgomery Bus Boycott worked

A lot of the privilege criticism about the strike seemed to be a race to be the wokest of them all.

Because people just admit to being sexual predators for kicks. Sure.

Why would I NOT believe Stanhope? People just admit to being sexual predators for fun right?

Seriously, its like Gawker decided it wasn’t enough of a rag and needed to go pick fights so they found a popular white celebrity and decided to spread rumors about him. Its absolutely disgusting but now Jez is keeping on with that. And we call Fox News “Fake News.”

Thank you for articulating exactly how I feel about this tempest in a teapot.

The problem is everyone thinks they are making their own choices to some extent. And the more you have freedom of choice the more you are probably coming from a place of power and privilege. I mean it really undermines the whole concept of feminism if we ignore that a lot of our choices are based on society’s

Thats a dissappointing and simplistic definition born from pirivilege.
