If you can physically do it, you may want to consider yoga, not just at a gym but at an actual mindfulness-based studio. It's basically meditation in the form of exercise, because you're so focused on your breathing and form that there's little room for other thoughts (at least in my experience). Plus it's guided (at

It's also important to note that this was the only thing on the ballot for most of the city (in one district they were also holding a runoff election for city council member, but that didn't apply to most voters. Only about 25% of the population voted. I wonder how the numbers would have broken down if held during a

Unfortunately, the reason for that is that they're at the clinic on San Mateo (IIRC, still a NM person but it's been awhile since I've lived in Albuquerque), which is the only location that performs abortions.

I personally don't like using it, because at least where I am it still has very strong gendered connotations and that makes me...uncomfortable.

Well, the story was pretty much, "I saw Val Kilmer in garb once and he was friends with someone in my household." And I'm probably biased because this guy is an ex and he mentioned the non-story wayyyy too often.

It was that SCA. :)

My ex swears he played in the SCA with Val Kilmer several decades ago. Seemed pretty believable to me, but also kind of sad and not really something to brag about...

As someone who knows nothing about toxicology but likes prospecting, I can tell you that uranium is actually pretty freaking common. It's more common than both silver and gold, for example, and is found all over the world.

I was thinking "Secretariat."

I saw a few commercials for it and thought it looked like a stupid comedy that just goes for cheap laughs, but then stumbled on a longer trailer for it online and it looks really good! Sometimes I wonder how they decide to cut those commercials...

It doesn't make sense for it to be the husband, because of the way he died. Suicidal people don't slowly poison themselves like that.

I really hope you do get counseling, and I mean that in a loving way (since I know it's hard to tell tone through text). I've had an abortion, and I volunteered at Planned Parenthood for years and spoke to many women having abortions and having post-abortion counseling. Most women don't feel so awful about it that

I totally agree. Even the sex scenes aren't that steamy, and are largely implied rather than shown. I think it's far more wholesome than Law & Order, for example, which can be quite violent and describe abuse and murder in detail.

She actually does avoid it sometimes, too. I've just started watching the show but in the second episode she turns down a very attractive young man who is coming on to her but who she suspects has committed a murder, and she explicitly says that her suspicion is the reason for it.

I love that review especially because of the use of "airhead" to describe her, which generally implies foolishness and stupidity. Which, you know, is kind of the opposite of Phryne Fisher, who routinely shows up the police by noticing clues and making connections that they don't.

Thanks for posting this. I signed up. I used to volunteer for Planned Parenthood as a clinic escort, but even in my relatively tame area of the US, it got to be too much for me physically and emotionally, especially since I work an emotionally-taxing job during the week. I still write letters, but I feel ineffective.

If you're a middle-class-looking white woman, those fears really aren't that realistic though. The number of serial killers and stranger rapists in this country is extremely small. You're far more at risk of being victimized by your friends or family than of being raped or killed by a stranger, even a stranger whose

In addition to weeona's excellent advice, maybe read up on form running. I used to get shin splints really bad when I ran with a heel-first strike, but when I learned to run with a mid-foot strike, I stopped having any issues with them. Proper form is so critical to safe running, especially if you're at all

I totally agree. I do find Jaden Smith annoying at times, but not in any way I wasn't also annoying when I was that age. Virtually all teenagers go through those stages and think they know everything. Unless the behavior is really beyond the pale, I think they need to be cut some slack.
