I thought the sarcasm/criticism in the post was directed towards the ad, not the ASB. Seemed pretty in line with Jezebel's general stance, to me at least.

I see what you're saying, but the thing is, according to the article it sounds like the issue is that women aren't listened to in that culture the same way that men are. So they were stuck trying to get their husbands to talk to government representatives in order to get the road fixed, which the husbands weren't…
Yeah, I was actually going to search for "Women shouldn't..." and was surprised that I didn't have to get that far before I got those awful autocompletes. I would have expected more shoulder-related results.
Oh yeah, that definitely happens. I signed out of my Google account and I actually happen to be housesitting so my IP address isn't even the same (if that matters). I know the results are still tailored, but everything other than the shoulder workout one (which I just included for the sake of honesty) shocked me.
I was a little skeptical and tried Googling these phrases myself, and my autocomplete started at "Women should..." The results? "Women shoulder workouts," "women should not vote," women should not speak in church," and "women should not be in combat." Wow.
It makes sense to me. Paramedics have skills that EMTs don't (and paramedics are not attached to most ambulances), and most of the time fire crews aren't out on specialized calls.
There's usually at least a paramedic or two on any fire crew. In my city, they're always dispatched along with the ambulance, and they almost always arrive first and stabilize the patient, then the ambulance arrives to transport the person to the hospital.
I had a friend whose white husky went missing after some contractors left her gate open accidentally, and I had to start fielding the calls for her because she got so many cranks. I don't know if it was the breed or what but she got people who claimed they were holding him for ransom and all kinds of weirdness. She…
I stole a dog under similar circumstances. She belonged to my neighbors but they had a bunch of dogs who bullied her and the neighbors never let her inside, so one particularly cold night I let her in my house and she started hanging out all the time. Then she got injured (attacked by their other dogs) and they didn't…
Your lack of compassion is astonishing.
That's a good point about the area. I've always lived in the more northern part of the state. Socorro was as far south as I've lived, and most of my time was up in Los Alamos.
It isn't just Hatch, although that's the most famous. There are a few really good chile-producing areas in the state.
edit: sorry, Kinja didn't show me additional replies at first and now my joking reply just seems like piling on. ;)
I tried to talk my husband into a blended surname, but it didn't work. Probably because I suggested what I thought was a rather humorous mishmash of our two very different names (think something along the lines of O'Schwarzenegger).
I get them all the time, because I got a lot of clients through my husband's and my social circle, and they tend to all assume I'm Mrs. HisName rather than Mrs. Dabi. It really shouldn't be a problem. When I lived in a small town or banked at a small credit union they never even asked me. With my current bank I had to…
I'm not sure we really disagree, and I think you misunderstand my position. I have no problem with teaching people (in appropriate contexts) how to stay safe, and especially how to stay safe while drinking. I mean, even RAINN has a ton of information available on that topic.
Oh no worries, I did.
Oh man, that was what I came here to say.
I'm a general fan of Emily Yoffe's, and I have a huge problem with this article. The reason is that I'm also a rape crisis counselor and community educator.
Yeah, she has a seriously crazy attitude towards alcohol. She's advised people who have 2 drinks 3-4 nights a week that they're alcoholics.
