I guess this is the time to trot out my oft-used story about how my my sister has been fluent in Japanese since her early teens and is married to a guy who is a native Mandarin speaker, and people are always shocked that when they first met they had trouble communicating because he only spoke a little English, which

And not only that, since the envelope they receive has no identifying information, you would have to have only one person write to every possible candidate, or at least a separate address for each one. It would be too much work for the anti-choice groups that have the numbers to possibly pull it off (they tend to have

That's quite a stretch. I get hickeys super easily, for one thing. My partner doesn't even have to stay in one place all that long and I can get one. I also bruise easily so sometimes a playful nip winds up leaving a mark that's pretty indistinguishable from a hickey.

I think at least part of the reason he's the one getting blamed for it is that his name is also the one that's most prominently attached to it. It's Robin Thicke featuring Pharrell and TI, he's the one performing it live without them, etc. Seems fair to me—he gets the most credit, he gets the most criticism.

For what it's worth, I thought that was directed generally at the cultural attitudes that caused Butterball to initially only hire female staffers, while the "good on ya" part was genuine. It is hard to tell, though.

I thought the same about the person who said "this is no longer Merica" or whatever it was. I thought that one had to be a joke (albeit a bad one), because people don't actually say that seriously, right?

I lived in rural OK for a year, and based on that experience I can understand that reaction (it's still a terrible reaction, to be clear—I understand why they react that way, but I'm not defending it). It seemed to be the word of choice when referring to black people for a ton of white people I met. I mean, even just

So I hate to be all EDUCATE ME, but what's the deal with Sanger and eugenics? I know there's a link, but online I can find everything from "she teamed up with them for political reasons" (which is still terrible) to "she was totally into eugenics and espoused abortion because it killed inferior babies" (which I don't

I do feel really bad for him, honestly. I have horses and I can't even imagine the pain I'd feel if I had one stolen. If you work with them day in and day out, they become like good friends or family. I'd be devastated if I had one just disappear like that. I hope Charly is recovered.

Everyone knows ponies are the meanest things around, but this little guy is actually a miniature horse I believe. They're sweet, kind things with the souls of angels. ;)

Yeah, I agree. This isn't really newsworthy (it's not being enforced, after all), and as someone who has been involved in local government and is aware of the cost/benefit issues, I do kind of wonder how much it would really cost to change this law. I realize all these laws cost money to change, but literally all of

I was openly queer as a teenager, and I think that's a very good description. I think it is worse than some forms of bullying, though, at least based on my experience. I was bullied for being queer and for being smart (I skipped my freshman year, so it was hard to hide).

edit: haha, thanks for catching that Writer4003. I was very confused for a moment there, wondering how what I wrote could possibly be offensive. Kinja is a harsh ruler and has done that to all of us at some time, I think. ;)

I thought so too. I'm only vaguely familiar with him and never watched that show, but I was well aware he was gay for some time. I don't think that letter was him coming out.

Yes, because coming out is so simple. It was even easier 10 years ago. There are no complex personal concerns like losing your family and friends or destroying your career. /sarcasm

Does anyone have a link to either a better quality video or a transcript? I really want to hear the whole thing, but I can't understand half of what he's saying in the linked video. Maybe I just have terrible speakers, but the only parts I understood were the ones quoted here, because I had the transcript to follow

That's pretty much exactly how I feel. I think it's a bad idea if you 100% do not want to get pregnant, but I think condoms alone are a bad idea for that too. I absolutely do not think it should be taught to teenagers as an acceptable method of birth control, because they don't have anywhere near that level of

I'm not afraid of IUDs in general like a lot of women (I have Mirena currently), but for me the heavier periods and increased cramping were the big fear with the copper IUD. I already tend to have heavy periods and lots of cramping even with hormonal methods that are supposed to make periods lighter and less painful.

I'm going to be in that same camp soon. I'm having my IUD removed and we'll be having unprotected sex, but we're not in a hurry to get pregnant either. So we're not going to be trying to prevent pregnancy, but if it doesn't happen for awhile, that's cool with us too.

Even Planned Parenthood says that the chances of getting pregnant from precum are small (but not nonexistent), so long as he has urinated since the last time he came. If he comes, doesn't pee, then goes at it again, there will be a lot of sperm in his precum.
