The pertussis vaccine isn't meant to prevent infection though. The vaccine is only meant to prevent the (otherwise often fatal) symptoms of infection.

I actually did some similar calculations recently and found that when I make my own meals I spend anywhere between 3.50 and 4.00/day on meals. If I get takeout or eat at a restaurant I don't think I generally get under that per meal. Lesson learned, I cook almost all my meals now (and eat a lot healthier).
