He seemed so lovely at the Olympics! Also, I enjoyed his torso on this show.

The “dancing” in that one really is something else.
Thank God I’m white!
Don’t forget Zinke.
Nah, she would not have medaled at the ‘94 Olympics. She did go to Worlds that year since neither Tonya nor Nancy went, and I distinctly remember all the pressure on her just to finish top 10 to qualify two American ladies skaters for the following year’s Worlds. Which she just barely did! She was great, but like 8th…
My aunt is watching Redzone today, and I mention to her that Pence left the Colts game early supposedly because of players kneeling. She goes, “Who?” And I say, “Mike Pence.” “...who? Oh yeah, that guy.”
We call that a quiche.
I had no idea AV Club ever did reviews of Homicide! I’ll just add all these years later that this is still my all-time favorite show, and this particular episode is my favorite episode. It’s just so well executed, and I think it’s also kind of quintessential Homicide. The murders this week are almost mundane (none of…
I am in the middle of a Deep Space Nine re-watch and have been reading these recaps as I went along, and then this site got switched to kinja, where I have a commenting account. Which is the only reason I am bothering to comment now!
To be fair, that’s us the rest of the time, too.
Yes, I was at a hockey game in Portland (Ore.) several years ago, and the girl singing O Canada forgot the lyrics somewhere in the first verse. The crowd sang the rest of the song, but there were probably only about a quarter as many of us so we didn’t sound quite as impressive as this Oilers crowd!
I knew this was about John Canzano just from the headline, ugh.
Another Grape Ape fan! Locals tend to talk down Voodoo, but as a born and raised Portlander, that grape doughnut is my all time favorite. But those ones with the Fruit Loops on top are disgusting.
I was just talking to someone whose two daughters sometimes skated with Tonya at Valley in Beaverton, and her assessment is the same as yours.
She still lives here! So does Jeff Gillooly, who changed his name. Deadspin ran a story about him a few years ago, which was a great read:
Maybe respond to people who try to justify the treatment of Japanese Americans by saying that each person who was incarcerated during WWII who was still living at the time of the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 received $20,000 from the U.S. government as compensation. Not only was it morally reprehensible, it was damned…
Good god, that “Buddha” twitterer is like the exact opposite of the actual historical Buddha: “Flooring salesman by day, treasure hunter by night. Second amendment supporter and owner of many fine firearms. Former successful entrepreneur.”
I don’t think anyone has mentioned Where’s Marlowe yet, but that was a good one that Miguel Ferrer starred in (from holy shit twenty years ago) with Mos Def and John Slattery.
I had to rewind and watch that part again to make sure I heard him correctly!
Japanese Americans who were still living in 1988-90 each received $20,000 redress from the government because of the obvious wrongness of what happened to them. So, in addition to being just generally terrible, this may cost us a chunk of change several decades in the future, when people are compensated for violations…
