Well.. even if you take a southern route, there’s snow in the winter. I bought a Cooper JCW in NM and tripped it back to Chicago in the winter.. It was pretty sketchy, and I had to drive 40mph on the highway for hours. Coopers are actually pretty good in the snow, they have a decent DSC system, but AWD is better.

Ahh.. too bad the AWD is made of glass. I’ve done plenty of trips in the snow with my Cooper, and though its possible, your knuckles are far less white while gripping the steering wheel. Weight, good tires, and a decent TCS system makes a huge difference as well.. A good, well rounded AWD car makes these trips…

I dont know what the rest of you Jalopers think, but I wouldn’t go unless it was AWD. Wagon means this thing is meant for road tripping, and you wont get through the Rockies with FWD unless you use extreme care. I’ve done it both ways. Cue the “you dont NEED AWD” crowd. AWD + snow tires is the way to dominate a winter…

Some cities its public (like fire and police), others its private. If the fire dept arrives its a free ride, but if the local meat wagon gets there first its a 15k ride.
