Remember that the Volt hit the market in 2011, and back then, no one had any clue what a PHEV was. The fact that a car could be both an EV & ICE was incredible, and expensive to produce.

The newest tech depreciates fastest because its outdated in no time (80 mile EVs). Current 250+ EVs are holding steady because they

I bought 2 weeks after the recall, on the cheap. Since prices went up, some rando offered me $3k more than I paid in October. We planned on selling our ‘13 Volt with 100k miles, to buy an SUV. We bought an Outlander PHEV and plan on repurchasing another Bolt in a few months when prices plummet again after the stop

The software update is a diagnostic process that will identify the .01% of batteries that actually have a defect, and will need to be replaced. Those that need replacement will get one, and the rest will be charged to 100%.

-Bolt owner, following closely in the forums.

You’re the one throwing in qualifiers. Compliance cars represent a good % of the available used EVs, so I kind of have to include them. The luxury EVs haven’t hit the 3 year mark where all the leases are returned, so we’ll see how they hold up, but in general most of the modern EVs aren’t old enough to know yet. Tesla

Yup, thats why I called it a PHEV, lol. They follow similar depreciation, that’s why I threw the hybrids in there, but as you can see I’ve owned a few other EVs.

You’re missing so many EVs. Think cheap compliance EVs for a minute. All could be had for peanuts after all the lease returns hit the market.

I’ve owned a very inexpensive Focus Electric, i3, Bolt, Volt, and now Outlander PHEV. All were a fraction of their MSRP and I bought ~3 years old w/ under 30-35k miles.

Meh. You say it isn’t, I say I’ve bought 3 EVs for 1/3 their original MSRP after 2-3 years. Its not entirely a bad thing.

That would be the one exception

Any EV

As much as I loved owning my i3, the Bolt is a better car in so many ways... including a MUCH better price at 1/2 the cost new and twice the range.

I’ll be disappointed if Hodge doesn’t use this in his stupid user-created slideshow content, but I guess I’ll never know..

Its not one, Hyundai/Kia has some pretty intricate taillight designs throughout their lineup, headlights as well.

Everything from Toyota looks far from “normal” these days. Too many creases for my taste, but at least there isn’t a giant grill (thanks EV).

Is he not also rich?

Yes, when I die, I’m going to have a custom made Caddy and it’ll be used once, then sit in a museum. Still the same thing.

Clearly the same thing, fantastic comparison. Did you realize mine is an ‘04, btw? Zoom in. It actually was one of the cheapest options, lol, not that one’s commuter car is anything close to having a custom truck built for the sole purpose of driving one’s dead body to a hole in the ground.

You could get really deep, and superglue a BB to the inside of the cap. It would cause the tire to slowly leak, but not when the cap was removed, and tired checked for leaks. They wont be able to find one, and it’ll drive them slowly insane. Muuhahahahaha

I have no idea if this works, but I dreamed it up in 9th grade.

I hear what you’re saying, but you also have many writers with different opinions. You cant expect Jalopnik to have a blanket policy on any one subject. You’re getting different takes from various writers.

We need more color wheels and an emphasis on complimentary colors.
