This is pretty much why season 1 works and season 2 doesn't, which makes me think that Pizzolato has no idea what he's doing and season 1 was all a fluke.

It's supposed to sound funny and self-aware, but it just ends up sounding stupid.

and some great time-jumpy plot devices.
you can tell that it took like 5 years to write season 1 and about a month to write season 2.

The Leonard Cohen theme is like what the show is trying to be but fails. Pretty sure that Pizzolatto just heard the song when he was trying to think of ideas (it was released around the time he would've wrote it).

I thought 'True Detective' was just some generic pulpy title for a generic pulpy show.

emma's thought process: "well that's weir…*looks at paycheck*…ehhh i mean i love k-pop so…"

yeah, the Emma Stone character is just the tip of the whole racist iceberg

a) the fact remains that Emma Stone isn't remotely mixed and b) if you're white and make it 'integral' to that the character is mixed, you better damn well get it right.
it would be better if white people just make generic boring characters and cast whatever ethnicity they like than pretend they have any interest in

The profit motive is just an excuse for them to be racist. So is the "hire your friends" motive. It's all bullshit.
Will your movie get made if the studio tells you to cast a white person and you refuse? Probably not. So maybe it's best to abandon that ship BEFORE it becomes a racist punchline.

Alternatives to Emma Stone:
- Maggie Q
- Devon Aoki
- Lucy Liu
- Chloe Bennett

"oh no, how tragic that this shitty Hollywood film won't get made because i can't cast non-white people!"
no, that's not how Hollywood works. every level of the industry is at fault here. Bollywood and the rest of the fucking world does perfectly fine with non-white casts.

that's the only reason why i still pirate tbh

that's because it is suspect - it's owned by Rupert Murdoch. i mean, who else would buy the domain News.com.au?

That's why I like Patti Smith's version, the way she snarls those lyrics make you really pay attention to them in a new light.

sure, Deep Purple are famous, but Jimi Hendrix is practically a deity

Patti Smith's version is undoubtedly the best

I actually don't mind that, it's the least offensive cliche at work on this show.

Podeswa has directed shit feature films so that doesn't really impress me…

I mean you're not wrong…

Exactly, why do people not think it's odd that EVERY character on the show is sexist and homophobic, even when they say they're not?
It's a bit hard to separate the art from the artist when the art is so transparently shit.
