Man, the simplistic “supply and demand” answer annoys me. Especially because it is the exact wrong conclusion.

Never mistake rich and powerful people for smart people.
And it is now considered normal to live in your car. No one bats an eye at the fact this guy just lost both home and car after a temporary lapse in judgment. California is a harsh place to live, perfect weather and all...
The explosion pressure can be as low as 10 - 20 psi. 15 psi over-pressure is the equivalent of a dive 33 feet deep in water.
In three months that 4runner will be on FB Marketplace looking new with “Salvage title due to minor bumper damage” in the description
When asked about the incident, the man replied:

My dad bought a new Cross-Fire Infected Trans Am, specially ordered, in 1982. The car was gorgeous but it could not get out of its own way. Sounded good while “accelerating” though.
Grew up in the 70s/80s when a sub-TEN was hot. And a 6-sec 0-60 was supercar territory.

I have seriously considered mounting a rear-facing light bar on my pickup to provide occasional feedback to my fellow motorists.
As long as my head crests the hill before my headlamps do, adaptive headlamps do squat for blinding the hell out of me when I most need to see what was blocked by the hill. What adaptive headlamps do is make the owner of them feel better about lighting up neighboring houses with the power of a thousand suns because…

I don’t know why it’s our burden as a receiving side...
I’ve seen them on European spec cars. I don’t know if it is legal to have them in America.
I feel like I’ve heard about an aftermarket solution that you can apply to your side and rearview mirrors that help make the glare more manageable. Maybe Bosch makes them? I have astigmatism and the headlights issue really has been awful recently - I left my east coast big city during Covid and went from full-time…
I’m a firm believer that cops empty clips and keep reloading and then claim that a bad guy fired first.
With all of that known information one would think these supposedly trained, professional LEOs could have come up with a better way to take this guy in other than trying to swarm his car in plain clothes and guns drawn.
I’m a firm believer that if the bad guy fires at the Police first or tries or attempt to injure while fleeing, then the response should be to empty clips and keep reloading.
“Plain clothes or not, I know an unmarked Police Ford Explorer when I see one.”
