Call me cheap, but I just took some aluminum foil, folded it about the size of a dollar bill, and stuff it into my wallet. I know it works because it blocks the card reader at work.

Minis have been my main desktop for many years, ever since I decided that a PMG5 ate way too much power for what I was doing. Graphics has always been a weak point, but not too many complaints. I’ve always done the SSD upgrade myself.

You could use a drop of nail polish (free if you have some lying around).

Even older guy... I used an HP67 in college, and most of my engineering colleagues had some sort of HP. Had to replace the battery pack and repair the card reader, but it still works. I hardly ever need a handheld calculator these days, though.

1) At my superbowl party, there are 2 rooms, one showing the game and another room showing alternate programming. This gathering is mostly an excuse for friends and their families to get together. (Crucial: rooms are close to each other, and adjoin the kitchen.). No big deal if you’re interested in the game or not.

Probably more important in the Windows world... I hardly ever have to reboot my Macs, and wouldn’t even notice.

I got mine the other day, but haven’t had much time to play with it yet. I’m an old Unix hacker, so I’m mostly on the (terminal) command line. Knowing keyboard shortcuts (history stack, bang args, etc.) comes in pretty handy on the funky keyboard and tiny screen.

I saw that in Make, and I still think it should be “There’s No ONE Right Way to Make Something”. Otherwise it sounds like “it’s impossible to make something that works”.

Original article should have been titled “How to Identify Some Languages Using A Latin Alphabet”. It barely mentions Chinese and (one of the) Japanese, Arabic, or even Cyrillic. And nothing about all the other scripts used in Asia. Many of these are in more common use than some of the languages mentioned in the

I know it was 420 the other day and weed is becoming more legal and socially acceptable, but I don't care to see articles about it here on Lifehacker... Is there a way for me to filter these out?

It’s a bit of a hack, but here’s a way to get Plex on ATV3, without needing a jailbreak:

Obligatory Spock quote: “After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but is often true.”

I keep a rubber ball and a Slinky at my desk at work for this very purpose. I have lots of toys and doodads near my desk at home, too.

Some of the best scenery is in Colorado and Utah. All the farmland between there and Chicago gets a bit repetitive, though.

I did this one summer about 30 years ago! San Diego to SF, more or less the route indicated here, with a side trip to Toronto. Destination was DC after NYC.

Been using the Mac versions of DupeGuru, DupeGuruPE (pictures edition) and DupeGuruME (music edition). I’ve found that rather than including all folders at once, it does a better job if you de-dupe a pair of folders and then add a folder at a time. I really like the ability to designate folders as “reference” for

Dinuguan, made by my mom, is a favorite. Way better than from most restaurants. Alas, it's labor intensive to cut up all the innards, and my mom can't make it anymore...

But, have you ever had durian ice cream?

I'm calling BS. You keep saying there are limitations. How about itemizing them?

Not saying virtual machines are invulnerable, but the article you quote is from 2009, citing a vulnerability in a now probably extinct version of VMware.
