Everybody seems to be misunderstanding my question, which means I did a poor job of asking it. Anybody in the swimming world — was Brock ever good enough that peoplein the swimming world thought he had Olympic potential, or was he just good enough to swim at Stanford?

Those are some incredibly powerful posts. If that isn’t the truth, I don’t know what is.

Brock Turner was convinced he would. In his letter, he even laments that he will now not be able to swim in the Olympics. But because evil forces ruined his life for him, or something, not because he sexually assaulted an unconscious person.

Amusing, confusing, and also alarming that they think my browsing history would mean that I would appreciate such an ad.

Hi there! Swim nerd here. Not to be “that guy” but they technically didn’t ban him - USA Swimming literally has a list of permanently banned members due to sexual assaults and stuff like that; he’s not on that list.

Remember, he’s not an athlete who made a mistake: he’s a criminal who can swim.

Every now and then Reddit gets it right. Don’t get me wrong, many of them are still women hating shitbags but this case was so cut and dried there was literally no room for discussion.

I’m putting this here as it’s a relatively anonymous and safe space to vent...

If you click on the link “Sponsored Links by Taboola” this is what comes up.

I’ll support Brock Turner the Rapist for the Olympics if it means he contracts Zika, becomes sterile, and then dies when I stab him in the face with a red hot poker.

Exactly. It “was ruined”. Not like he had any hand in destroying it himself. As your said: Barf.

Nah, they wouldn’t. But surely they could find a less-sleazy company to run the ads for them? They probably don't even care but damn it's infuriating.

I don’t know about swimmers for this year’s Olympics, but he was supposedly up on the list of people heading to the trials. I guess now he’s disinvited, which is as it should be.

Re-posting this tweet I saw earlier. I can’t stop thinking about how a woman’s past vs a man’s potential is weighed out in nearly every rape and DV case in the news lately...

Well that is beyond sad. Won’t somebody think of “20 minutes of action” man and cut him some slack? I mean, his nonpology specifically stated that he blamed alcohol and Stanford’s blending of education with real world decisions for his behavior. How dare they! It’s a damn pity that USA Swimming agreed with Stanford.

I found that story on Reddit and to my surprise most of the visible comments were supportive of the victim and anti-Brock. I’m sure tomorrow we’ll get a bunch of sports radio dudebros spewing hot takes that no one asked for to make up for it.

USA Swimming oversees all competetive swimming in the US from age group to masters. He will never be able to join a swim club beholden to USA Swimming for life, meaning most all of the coached teams in the US. It’s kind of a beautiful punishment.

So much for Plan B.

Oh god no, he might never have an appetite for steak ever again. : * (

He was obviously a good swimmer to end up at Stanford, but did people really think he was going to be Olympic caliber? There are a lot of elite college swimmers and only 2 Olympic spots for each event. I haven’t kept up with swimming much in recent years, so I don’t know.
