I assume because the police can't/won't do anything about it and aren't necessarily any better at looking after victims. Going through a trial can be much worse for the victim.

To be fair, I thought Piers was asking those questions as an opportunity for her to dispell negative perceptions of Trayvon. In context, following on from other questions about him as a friend, it didn't seem aggressive at all.
