I cycled across North America..60 days, ground cloth, no pad, tent every night. Modern “overlanders” are such lightweights. “Glamping” off-road. Lol Tech Bros bragging about soft asses, creatures and their comforts. 

10 nights in a hotel will get across the country and back too for a lot less.

My setup cost $4500: Tepui 4 person RTT ($3k) and trailer ($1.5k). Just took it across the country and back.

Someone explain this to me. I’ve done a lot of camping. I’ve lived in a van. I’ve toured and traveled and overlanded, at times paid for it.

I’m going to share a secret. But a cheap cap. Put a Kwik-Rite tent cot on top of it. (Around $300)..... Add a ladder. You’re overlanding

I understand how things are more expensive now, but these glorified roof top tents (and the regular roof top tents) are getting absurd. 3 years ago people would laugh you out of the room for a $3500 RTT, now that’s “affordable”. $7700 for an aluminum frame and a tent? It’s not that I don’t doubt that it’s nice, well…
