I think you underestimate the Brits' connection to their monarchy as well as their national identities. The UK is probably the least eurocentric country the EU for a reason. And they are all rather proud of their Scottish, Irish, Welsh and English heritage.

The problem with this as well the anti-choice rhetoric is the assumption that people take abortion lightly and would do it repeatedly for all sorts of silly reasons, which is very much not the case.
