Obviously there are some shit cars. But a Camry is going to be better than a Venza when equipped similarly. The article I commented on acted as if all this hatchness demonstrated that the car buying public had become smarter. The opposite is clearly true. Cars stop sooner and turn faster and occupants fare better

This data just shows dipshits keep buying cars with inappropriate ride heights for street use. This is terrible news for proper street performance.

"Contrary to what you might believe, the American consumer has gotten smarter, and the smarter consumer doesn't want a sedan"

and you sit up higher, which a lot of buyers like for ease of entry and visibility.

Here are a few reasons: SUV's are invariably heavier (bigger), handle worse (higher CG), typically cost more (automakers of course know that SUV's = profits, since they cost essentially the same to manufacture as a sedan, but typically sell at a higher price). The typical SUV two-box design gives tons of interior

Wrong. Look at sedan sales: fusion, focus, Camry, corrolla, etc. They are still way ahead of anything else in terms of units sold. With fuel economy becoming more important, sedans will have a permanent and important place in America's car landscape.
