I disagree that the sole point of broadcasting your location is so that friends can find you easily when you're out on the town. I check in on FB to show that I like an establishment or place and to share it with my friends. I won't usually check in if the place sucks.

@Firesphere: Just add an IR blaster and mount a tiny receiver below the TV. I keep all my components in a ventilated cabinet below my TV using one. It looks much more tidy and keeps little toddler hands away from my costly equipment.
