The console market in Japan has been shrinking for the last few years with handheld and mobile gaming making up most of the market. Adding to that that Japanese developers way behind in technology, it's not a surprise that new consoles are being released last in Japan.
Most people in this thread are missing the point. The problem is not what is said but who says it. Someone in a position of power shouldn't abuse it.
Consoles are basically home appliances, and like your washer, your fridge or your Blu-ray player, they're not made to be upgraded. Like other home appliances, they're also made to be easy to use for anybody and generally more reliable.
Maybe so, but I'm just telling that this is what the dev used to capture the video and the screenshots, which was the original question.
Can you read? That's the specs of the PC the dev used in the video. Got it?
The video is basically comparing a finished, commercially available game that runs on a $200 console (GT6 on a PS3) with a beta build of an unreleased game running on a $2,000+ PC.
That site is often used as a reference by PC enthusiasts and it provides links with prices for each part, so don't take it the wrong way if I highly doubt that you can get the exact same set up for less than half the price.
These screenshots are probably taken using the same PC as the one used in this video:
That's about 250 games over the span of 2 years. Even if these "free" games are tied to an annual $50 subscription (that you can get for $30) it's still a hell of a deal.
As others have said, people with slower Internet connections and also people who watch Netflix on smaller, mobile device screens (or on their Wii).
I don't have cable so I can't say how valid the comparison is, but right now consoles -while not perfect- still have a few advantages over PCs. Once they start releasing SFF boxes running SteamOS and entirely controller based however, I believe that most of these advantages will eventually disappear.
In the 20th anniversary version of E.T., Spielberg replaced the guns, used by the police, with walkie-talkies.
In Japan they start playing Christmas songs the day after Halloween. Valentine Day ads will kick in in a few days.
Are you trying to say that THE BEST GAME EVERâ„¢ didn't get a GOTY?
Yeah, isn't that great?
So true.
PlayStation Plus is simply awesome. Just signed up for it recently and wish I had done sooner.
Given that the game's core gameplay mechanic is based on a physics defying grappling hook and parachute, I wouldn't worry too much about the amount of gravity.
