a-t-c

People keep saying that. Lest we forget everyone’s favorite merc with a mouth debuted Valentine’s weekend and became the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time(until Joker)?

“One Summer” is one of my favorite books of all time. I’ve read it cover to cover twice. Did you ever read Bryson’s “Home”? It’s a self-described “History of Domestic Life” but it is so, so much more. Another one I’ve read twice.

I only saw this today because I have Splinter on my desktop and I always land here first. And of course Spanfeller shut it down because this is an election year; which only proves how fearful corporate bullies are of fearless reportage.

I love that book and yes I agree that there’s a fascinating/utterly depressing history to be written about that entire time. Coolidge was only known to me through the whole cutesy “Silent Cal” whitewash that’s been applied.

Did anyone think that Miller’s utter obsession with halting nonwhite immigration was based on something besides racism? This is about as shocking as learning that Trump cheated on his taxes.

In addition to trying to replicate Gawker, they could have had some people who know anything about journalism do some editorial guidance to perhaps make Splinter more relevant in this environment where they should be printing money off of political coverage. Splinter wanted to be the coverage for the Left but they

I love how you dipshits who proclaim to have worthwhile opinions on Communism don’t even know that it’s an economic system, and is not in any way mutually exclusive with liberal democracy and constitutionalism.

I swear to god if he follows us over there I’m going to whoop your ass, or write a very strongly worded letter!

It really was colossally stupid to shutter Splinter right as Trump finally begins seeing consequences for his crimes.

You’re not an intelligent person and nobody values anything you have to say.

Splinter, such as it was, was a relatively new brand, spun off from Fusion. Gizmodo and Jezebel and Deadspin and all the other more highly trafficked sites had been around for a long time. They didn’t just come fully formed drawing 10s of millions of visitors. So yes, I understand that it’s traffic numbers were not

I know this has been going around but just in case you want it, here is an invite to the Discord server (read: AOL-style chatroom haha) with a bunch of Kinja people in it. https://discord.gg/yTEzC2j (yes I know I am copy pasting, future asshole who’s going to mention it)

Also firing the senior editor on Deadspin at the final of the world series and when the NCAA decides to let students profit off of their own images. And now articles of impeachment are about to be rolled out and they don’t have a politics-dedicated blog.

Don’t worry, they took down the most-highly trafficked site in their portfolio too. This is peak venture capital.

Hear hear.

It was an article on The Root that introduced me to the GMG family, linked from some bullshit on Rolling Stone. With trump being elected, I realized that I should pull my head out of my ass and pay attention to more than just my immediate world around me. I started with CNN, but the sometimes sensationalist, clickbaity

Brain status: Chicken and herb.

Say it louder, and say it everywhere!

They shouldn’t have written all those sports stories.

I’m amazed this even got published. I was really thinking there was a firing-level edict against even mentioning the shutdown and firings.
